RAI companies’ employees took the 1970s costume challenge seriously, sporting some of the best costumes through the two-day Bowl for Kids’ Sake event.

RAI, employees’ $87,000 in support bowls over Big Brothers Big Sisters

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.―RAI (Reynolds American Inc.) and employees from its subsidiaries bowled a perfect game for children in our community with $87,000 in financial support during Bowl for Kids’ Sake, Big Brothers Big Sisters Services’ signature fundraising event.

Over 300 employees from RAI companies formed 52 bowling teams with creative names such as Camel City Rollers, Lucky Strikers, Snakes on a Lane, Basement Bowlers, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Gutter and Livin’ on a Spare. Many bowlers also wore costumes to celebrate Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Back to the 70s disco theme in honor of the agency’s 40th anniversary this year.

"Our Board of Directors is comprised of some of the best leaders in Forsyth and Davie counties, and Mike Auger, RAI Trade Marketing Services Company, is a great example of leading by example since he joined our board last year," said Shawan Gabriel, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Forsyth and Davie counties. “Mike has continued to build the strong relationship between RAI and our agency set by his Big Brothers Big Sisters Board predecessor, Danny Herko.”

In addition to supporting Bowl for Kids’ Sake, several volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters work at RAI companies, and the Right Decisions Right Now program, funded by R. J. Reynolds, provides an anti-smoking curriculum to children in the program.

Denise Bowman, a Sr. Staff Scientist in Scientific & Regulatory Affairs, was instrumental in coordinating all 52 teams for RAI. We simply could not have this type of success without Denise's leadership and direction for this event,” said Amy Boardwine, Director of Philanthropy for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
