Bigs Council hosts free Cue in the Quarter for Bigs and Littles

More than 50 Big Brothers and Sisters, as well as their Littles, attended ‘Cue in the Quarter, a free event planned by the Bigs Council of Big Brothers Big Sisters Services, which was held behind the Kimpton Cardinal (former RJR Building) at the corner of Fourth and North Church streets from 5-9:30 p.m on Friday, Sept. 8.

Tours of Wake Forest Innovation Quarter, dinner, camaraderie and more culminated with the viewing of “Back to the Future” at Bailey Park, part of the Innovation & Cinema Series. Chief Innovation Officer Eric Tomlinson amazed the group with his perspective on innovation and inspired many Littles to think BIG!

Big Sister Beverly Williford shared that her Little “was very impressed with the Innovation Quarter tour. My Little’s brother stated that he would never wash his hand again after shaking the hand of Eric Tomlinson.”

“The Bigs Council is made up of Big Brothers and Sisters who want to further support the agency by providing opportunities for Bigs and Littles to come together and build relationships. Other goals include recruiting volunteers and supporting the agency’s fundraising events, such as Bowl for Kids’ Sake,” said DeeDe Pinckney, Bigs Council chairperson.

The event was made possible by Jim Carros, a Big Brother and Senior Finance Manager with RAI, and Billy Hinshaw, who also works at RAI and is a barbecue master. Hinshaw is donating his time, talent and cooking skills for the event. Other Bigs Council members are providing the side dishes, paper products, drinks, decorations and more. The members are: Meridith Whitaker, Beverly Williford, Joe Rick, Heather Widener, Jessica Spencer, Jill Petras, Gloryana Nelson, Anthoula Carros, Jocelyn Moye, Vivian Blount and Demetria Nickens.

“Our agency is grateful to have a highly engaged group of volunteers who are passionate about helping children succeed and supporting our volunteer recruitment and fundraising efforts,” said Shawan Gabriel, president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters Services.
