Shawan Gabriel - President/CEO

Shawan Gabriel joins Big Brothers Big Sisters after working the past five years with the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina, an organization that has worked closely with Big Brothers Big Sisters and a partner United Way Agency with BBBS. Gabriel’s most recent role with the YMCA was serving as the Executive Director of their Winston-Lake Branch. Additionally, Gabriel has previous Big Brother Big Sister experience after working from 2001-2008 with Big Brothers Big Sister of Central Piedmont in High Point, NC, as the Vice President of Operations. Gabriel has not only a strong passion for the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters but is committed to the engagement of volunteers and their impact on the lives of the children we serve and the community in which we live.  Over the past ten years during his time with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Piedmont and YMCA of Northwest North Carolina, Gabriel has served as a Big Brother and celebrated his Little Brother graduating from Mt. Tabor High School in June 2012.




Amy Boardwine - Director of Philanthropy

Amy Boardwine initially joined Big Brothers Big Sisters as a board member before joining the BBBS staff in 2005. She served as Director of the Davie County office prior to being promoted to Director of Philanthropy in 2014. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University and is currently pursuing a Master's degree.  In addition, she holds her Non-Profit Management Certificate from Duke University. Amy is a member of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals, Pearls of Empowerment, the women's giving fund through the Davie Community Foundation, and the Rotary Club of Mocksville where she is a Past President. She is also a member of Leadership Winston-Salem Class of 2016. Since 2011, Amy has been a BBBS Big Sister to an amazing young lady who is now a student at Salem College. Amy is a native of Davie County where she resides with her husband and two children.

 



Lamaya Williams - Director of Operations

Lamaya Williams joins Big Brothers Big Sisters as Director of Operations after having served previously as the agency’s Director of Volunteer Recruitment and Public Relations. She has a wide range of experience in nonprofit operations, including work in program design and execution, fundraising and philanthropy, volunteer management, public relations and marketing. She has worked for Wake Forest University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, United Way of Forsyth County, Family Services, Inc., Forsyth Technical Community College and Communities in Schools. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Wake Forest University. She has also studied at The University of Georgia, Salem College and The University of Amsterdam in Holland. A native of Winston-Salem, Lamaya has been a Big Sister with our agency and continues to help her community by volunteering in a number of roles, including serving on the board of directors for The Women’s Fund of Winston-Salem. She and her husband, Ira, live in Lewisville with their three children.
