Graduating our Future. This initiative is focused on increasing the high school graduation rate at Parkland High school. BBBS is intent on making site and community based matches at Philo and the other Parkland feeder schools. Our initial emphasis was on recruiting WSSU students as mentors but we have since increased our pool of potential volunteers. Led by the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina in collaboration with Family Services, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System, its goal is to improve the high school graduation rate to 90% by 2018. Pilot programs at Parkland Magnet High School and Philo Magnet Academy were expanded this year to Carver High School and Mineral Springs Middle School

Graduate. It Pays. GIP is a collaborative community program launched by concerned Winston-Salem business and community leaders to focus on improving the high school graduation rate. Big Brothers Big Sisters' volunteers mentor repeating 9th graders, Communities in Schools mentors 10th and 11th graders and the Senior Academy led by the Chamber of Commerce mentors 12th graders at Atkins, North, Reynolds, Glenn, East, and Carver High Schools. In FY2010 we had 35 new and continuing matches in the Graduate. It. Pays. Program.
